Project Overview: Goal 3

Research shows that home visitation and clearly outlined activities for parents ensures effective parent involvement and school readiness in children. In order to launch a school readiness and parent involvement program, the necessary resources, partnerships and infrastructure must be developed within a host agency. VISTA members will develop the infrastructure, partnerships and resources necessary to establish a fully functioning and sustainable parent involvement and school readiness program in the community.

Activities:

  • Facilitate the functioning of the School Readiness Task Force and Parent Leadership Team through the action steps the group outlines.
  • Each site will write 4 grants to private, public and corporate foundations and agencies.
  • With the development person/team at the agency, identify grants to include school readiness and parent involvement programming, submitted by the host agency or local partnerships.
  • Secure volunteer readers from the School Readiness Task Force that can give feedback and support the grant writing process.
  • Submit a program application to HIPPY USA outlining start up plans

Results:

  • Output: Quarterly planning meetings of the school readiness task force in each of the target community (20 meetings)
  • Output: 20 grant proposals
  • Intermediate outcome: 2 grants identified in each community (10 grants total)
  • Intermediate: 3 readers participate in each community (15 readers total)
End outcome: each site submits a program application to HIPPY USA outlining start up plans.
